What happens during a pediatric wellness visit?

Pediatric wellness visits are part of preventive care. Children typically have a routine physical exam once a year after they turn two years of age, even when they aren’t sick. These visits allow the provider at Concord Health and Wellness Center the opportunity to assess your child’s overall health and monitor their growth and development. Infants and young children see the team more frequently, usually every 2-3 months.

During a pediatric wellness visit, your provider evaluates important health factors like:

• Heart rate
• Lung function
• Body temperature
• Blood pressure
• Blood work

The goal of wellness visits is to identify potential health issues in their earliest stages and to ensure your child is growing on track. These appointments are also a great time to discuss any concerns or questions you have about your child’s health and keep them up-to-date on immunizations.

Concord Health and Wellness Center creates a timeline based on your child’s age, health history, and specific needs for routine checkups. If your child develops an unexplained pain or illness, you can schedule a sick visit in-between wellness checks.

Why does my child need immunizations?

Immunizations are the first line of defense against a variety of contagious diseases. To protect infants while their immune systems are still developing, many immunizations start soon after birth and involve a series of injections to protect your child from diseases like: 

• Mumps
• Measles
• Chickenpox
• Whooping cough

Your child can also receive seasonal immunizations to protect against the flu virus.
